I currently work for Ultra Electronics Airport systems. Airport Systems are the commercial aerospace arm of Ultra Electronics who operate in the military hardware sector, providing sonar/guidance systems and other classified hardware. We provide civilian BRS (Baggage Reconciliation System), FIDS (Flight Info System Data), CUSE (Common Use Systems) and various other applications which both Airlines and Airports incorporate in to their infrastructure for facilitating the running of their respective businesses.
My role in the company is to maintain all internal IT infrastructure and project manage internal IT projectwork both in the UK and at our satellite offices located around the world.
Due to the nature of the business, we are constantly tendering and winning bids overseas meaning I have to travel extensively to setup new satellite offices for seconded staff. In the last 5 years I have been responsible for the following:
Beijing - Project managed the requirements, design and installation.
Beijing - Project managed the decommission and subsequent reinstallation at new premises
Shanghai - Project managed the office infrastructure upgrade to replace all existing servers/hardware
Hangzhou - Project managed the office infrastructure upgrade to replace all existing servers/hardware
Muscat & Salalah- This project was already underway when I joined. I assisted as the APM.
Houston - Project managed the I.T infrastructure upgrade
Kansas - Project managed the requirements, design and installation.
Kansas - Project Managed the decommission of the office in preparation for the move to Florida
Annecy - Project managed the requirements, design and installation.
These projects were all subject to the relevant ITIL processes, risk assessments and compliance to ISO27001 policies.
My more recent projects have been the implementation and management of the following:
Upgrading the Core Network backbone
Deployed SharePoint 2013 solution for centralised documents and Intranet.
Deployed a replacement BES (Blackberry) & Airwatch solution.
Virtualising the Development environment and segregating the Network to accommodate this.
Implementing a replacement VPN solution.
Moving our core IT infrastructure to an SCCM and Hyper-V environment.
Incorporating a full encryption suite deployed to all laptop/remote users.
Based in Mirdif, Dubai, I contracted to Petroleum Pipe Ltd as IT Manager for the Middle and Far East Operations. The company had medium sized offices all over the world.
The role was very expansive as I was responsible for the following:
IT infrastructure and all management aspects such as the IT staff, hardware budgets (Cap-Ex), reporting, general documentation, liaising with vendors and contractors.
Delegating and prioritising workload for the two first line technicians that worked for me One of the first projects I undertook at the company was to redesign and relocate the Server room, due to it residing in the main office and generating a lot of heat and noise.
I project managed two full office moves within the company, involving moving external offices from one location to another.
All projects either in the planning stage, or on-going were kept updated with weekly and monthly meetings with my line management.
I held the position of Senior IT Engineer with C.D.L (Cheshire Data Systems Ltd) based in Stockport. I worked there for over 3 years in the Internal Systems Technology Team. I was one of three Domain Administrators who looked after approximately 300 users and maintained the I.T and Network Infrastructure.
I held the position of Northern Operations Engineer for Action.Information.Management based in Wiltshire. The company provided real-time GPRS telematics tracking software for transport authorities and mainline services such as Fire/Ambulance/Police/Public Transport. My position was to implement and setup the infrastructure necessary at client sites.
I held the position as IT Support Technician at Amraf Training College. After completing an initial 12 week probationary period, I worked there for approximately 10 months gaining experience in installing, trouble-shooting and configuring LAN setups and setting up the desktop workstations for the students in the labs.
I worked for Method Maker as an IT Support Engineer to internal employees. Method Maker was a small IT consultancy company which employed approximately 40 people.
I worked for various Civil Engineering company\'s where my duties incorporated site set outs, profiling, site surveys.
Compiling Method Statements and Risk Assessments.
My own company subcontracted to Serco Ltd. I was responsible for the management of an annual contract and supervision of various work sites and projects associated with railway maintenance works. During this time I also held the PTS, PICOW & PICOP railway certifications.
