After Imtech North were unsuccessful in renewing the NBS Contract with Carillion, I was headhunted by Calderbrook Construction, the newly appointed M&E project management contractor. I began as the sole project manager working on the NBS lifecycle contract for our client, Carillion.
Moved from being a junior PM on a team of 5, to being the sole PM, and for the 17/18 financial year I was joined by another project manager. Over the 16/17 financial year I took projects from the feasibility stage and managed them through to completion.
Obtained sub-contractor quotes, managed on-site works and client engagement, up to completion and handover.
Worked on multiple concurrent sites in Swindon, Bournemouth and Dunfermline. Projects ranged from small works replacing pumps to replacing UPS systems in NBS's data centre and their suite of backup generators at the head office. Project values ranged from 25k to 1.8 million, with an average value of 327k. Works included several crane lifts, for which it was my responsibility to arrange all contractors and temporary works permits from Carillion's Geotechnical Services department.
Ensured all works complied with CDM regulations, prepared waste management plans, risk registers and Construction Phase Plans to the standard of Carillion's CDM advisor.
My role also included procuring works from the NBS/Carillion engineering and FM teams. They would contact me directly and I would visit site to ascertain the scope of required works, then obtain sub-contractor quotes to get a competitive price, before submitting a quote to the relevant department. Upon receipt of an order, I would put together a programme of works, organise all sub-contract labour, manage works on site and organize all permits, ensure completed works are to the client's standard, organize a formal handover meeting and documentation, then carry out a customer satisfaction report.
17/18 I continued working on the NBS contract, which culminated in the replacement of a roof-top chiller and 2no. chiller pumps at NBS's flagship building, 1 Threadneedle Street in London.
I organized all contractors to facilitate mechanical, electrical and BMS works, as well as crane lift and road closure for three days in central London, then spent 3 days on-site managing the sub-contracted work force.
Posted to the Swindon site office, I assisted the project management team working on the NBS contract for principal contractor Carillion.
Assisted in preparation of paperwork including site H&S files, O&M Manuals, internal reports.
Gathered quotes from sub-contractors, liaised with designers, carried out site surveys and attended client meetings.
I was part of the survey and design team for a scheme to replace circa 10,000 light fittings for new LED fittings at Swindon's Great Western Hospital.
Obtained my CITB SMSTS Qualification and expanded my role into site management, becoming a fully-fledged project manager.
Managed my first project, the procurement and installation of a new fire-suppression system at NBS's main data centre, I was responsible for all on-site H&S, managing Sub-Contractors to ensure correct scope and standard was adhered to, and liaised with the client's programme manager and on-site BAU Engineering team to ensure works ran smoothly in the live data centre environment without disrupting crucial data centre activities.
I began my time with Imtech by working with the Group Business Development Manager, regional MDs and Imtech UK CEO on a 2 month business development project to analyse each regional company's order book in order to set KPIs and ensure a healthy business plan was in place for each business, and to help identify key contracts that must be won in order to maintain healthy profit margins.
I worked with the Group Marketing and Communications Managers to redesign the company website, focusing on interviewing Imtech staff across the country for case studies as part of Imtech's continued efforts to attract the most talented staff in the construction and engineering industries.
This involved sourcing willing interviewees, preparing interview questions, carrying out remove interviews, sourcing high quality photos of the subjects and editing their responses for publication on the Imtech UK website.
Assisted the Theale office after the departure of their QS/Finance Controller.
Assisted the Operations Manager in preparing cash flows and CHRs for client presentation and internal reporting.
