After obtaining my heavy goods license i sort employment in the haulage industry. I was employed with John Philips as a van driver initially with the prospect of promoting to class 2 then class 1 driving. I achieved this quicker than expected and with in months i was driving class 1 vehicles. John Philips is a general haulage company which means a wide range of skills are required to perform the job. I have gained an ADR certificate to enable me to carry hazardous materials such as chemicals, gas, flammable liquids etc. I have gained experience in container work as well as multi drop deliveries. Multi drop deliveries can bring its own challenges from house deliveries in a residential area to timed delivers in a distribution centre to a farm down a country lane.
As a warehouseman in a small motor factors my role was everything stock related. For the majority of the time i would work in the role alone meaning that I had all the responsibility. Stock quantities and product types were ever changing which meant constant adjustment of shelving as well as computer data which required organisation. After a length of time i was inducted on the company delivery vans. This meant i was able to delivery parts to customers when there was a driver short. I had to do this among my normal work load therefore I had to ask for shop floor staff to assist me when the work load became to much.
I started this role with no knowledge of car accessories and went from sales assistant to assistant manager in the time i worked at Motor World. As assistant manager my role was to run the store in the absence of the manager. I had to assist customers with their enquires as well as complaints. I also had to manager the other sales assistants to make sure they were doing their job correctly. I was also a key holder so i was responsible for the security of the store upon closing time.
I worked at Makro as a customer services assistant along side my college studies. My main role was a trolly collector in the car park. From time to time i would assist customers with shopping in to their cars when oversized products had been purchased. In my time at Marko i was also trained on the check out tills meaning during busy times i could help with the large customer numbers reducing queue time.
