I have just completed 32 years working as a secondary school teacher, almost entirely within a large, successful Community College. I am a highly experienced classroom practitioner as well as over 20 years pastoral and Curriculum based Leadership experience. I am reliable, well organised and responsible. I have excellent inter-personal skills and am very time and deadline focused.
Additionally I have a range of other work experiences including multidrop delivery driver in London and Devon, a Health Service Information Officer, an Art salesman and a Medical Employment Counsellor all which preceded my teaching Career.
I have held a full Devon County minibus permit for 30 years and regularly driven minibuses, leading sports teams and field trips both in UK and abroad. I love driving and have excellent map-reading skills and a sound knowledge of the region, particularly Devon.
I started my career at Ivybridge in 1983 as 50% Science 50% PE. In 1989 I was appointed Head of Year with responsibilty for the pastoral welfare and support of a year group of some 360 students and 15 staff in a rolling 5 year cycle taking the students from entry at Year 7 to the end of Year 11 and post 16 options. In 2005 I switched to Head of Biology/ DTL Science with responsibility for all the Biology Programme of Study as well as Key Stage 4. I returned to full time classroom teaching in 2008. I successfully taught Biology to A level and helped guide students towards University courses and further education and training.
My first teaching post following my training and successful achievement of my PGCE qualification. I successfully completed my probationary year and successful secured a full time post at Ivybridge from September 1983
In the 3 years following graduation from University I firstly signed on with an agency and I worked as a delivery driver for UBM Ford (Exeter) and then in North London for 12 months. I moved on and worked at Guys Hospital Poisons Information Service as an Information Officer / Researcher. In June 1980 I travelled extensively and worked as an Art Salesman and then Employment Counsellor in North America before returning to Teacher training in Sept 1981.
My 3 year degree course also involved a one year sabbatical as full time Athletic Union President, an elected post.
In recent years my interests have changed a little from the active sporting and outdoor life I once enjoyed! I have discovered golf and still enjoy the opportunity to ski from time to time. I still enjoy moorland or coastal walks with the dog and even with the wife and grown up kids. I enjoy following, now that I no longer play or coach, Premiership rugby, particularly the Exeter Chiefs. I read a good deal and have French family (and mother) who I visit regualarly
I am active, energetic, healthy and reliable and keen to continue enjoying my work and life.
