Conservation ExperienceShamwari Game Reserve － Paterson, South Africa
I attended a conservation experience at Shamwari game reserve for 2 weeks and found it extremely worthwhile. We carried out many different conservation duties throughout the fortnight including removing alien plant species, erosion control, road maintenance and many other jobs that needed done around the reserve.
We also took part in helping to track and identify animals and species along with aiding the staff at one of the BornFree centres located on the reserve.
We had many different responsibilities such as loading the vehicles with equipment and also while doing research activities involving poaching and conservation methods.

Work ExperienceBarbarafield Riding School － Cupar, FifeI completed one weeks work experience at Barbarafield riding school during my NC. I worked hands on with the horses assisting the other yard workers with feeding and mucking. Having already had previous experience with horses I was able to get the horses ready to be ridden and also go out on rides with the leaders. I was responsible for the preparation of the horses and bringing them out their riders.

Alpaca HandlerClaireville Alpacas － Windygates, FifeI have many different duties and responsibilities surrounding the alpacas. My mother and I both contribute to the feeding, mucking, breeding and health checking of the alpacas. I also train all of the youngsters for showing and walking as I am the main handler. I lead out walks with the alpacas and also conduct educational talks and trips attending many open days and functions with them. I am still also responsible for various farm duties.

As I grew up on the farm I was always a part of the work. When I was younger the farm had more hands on work with the animals which I was enjoyed. I was responsible for the care of the ducklings and piglets also assisting in the birthing of piglets.
As the farm swayed more to poultry I was in charge of running the main egg shed making up orders. I was also in charge of mucking the hens and maintaining their sheds. I also gained experience using heavy machinery such as tractors and forklifts.
