Dear Chief Patterson,
Please let this letter serve as my resignation from the Atlas Volunteer Fire Department effective two weeks from September 1 2014. This decision was not easy for me but I have decided to go back to school to improve my employment situation and better provide for my family which leaves no time for being a volunteer fireman.
In my time with the department I have meet many wonderful friends and felt as though I was doing my best to support the community. I also enjoyed all of the community events the department would participate in and the chance to march each year in the Thanksgiving Day parade.
I have already discussed my intentions with the rest of my colleagues and they understand the situation. I do apologise if this leaves you in a tough situation but I had to make the choice that was best for me and my family. I will cherish my time with the department and will look upon the mementos I have accumulated with pride.
If you need to discuss this with me any further or you need more details please feel free to call me at 555-342-6543 or email me at archiewalters@email.com. I would be more than happy to answer any questions or provide any information that would make this process easier.
Sincerely Yours
Archie P. Walters
