  • Medical clearance of volunteers in the International Citizen Service (ICS) prior to taking up their placement - including assessment of their fitness to travel/work with VSO and advising on reasonable adjustments
  • Volunteer and staff support in developing countries - providing key advisory medical support for UK volunteers, international staff, their dependants, and UK based travelling staff in event of illness or medical emergency, providing initial support and referral to appropriate avenues of longer term support
  • Advising on health issues and policy internationally - giving guidance on health issues to Country Offices, encouraging staff and volunteers to follow medical policy and practice, responding to general medical queries about prescription medication, pre-existing medical conditions, screening/tests
  • Assisting volunteers, international staff, country offices and federation offices to obtain and follow the advice of the relevant VSO Medical Advisor
